Three master’s and doctoral students participated in this program held in two locations, Melbourne, Australia and Athens, Greece. TUA managed this program in collaboration with partner universities, University of the Arts London, Monash University, ZHdK, and Hong Kong Baptist University, and a symposium was held connecting the two cities.
The two-week program in Athens focused on the theme of extractivism, which has recently attracted international attention, and mapped changes in urban and geographical space and economic exploitation processes that have occurred in Melbourne and Athens from the vantage points of the past, present, and future. Based at an art space in Athens, we gave lectures on the changes in urban space and conducted field research in Aspropyrgos and nearby farms, examining not only the material impact of extractivism but also its relationship to the global economy that underpins it. The research was presented as artworks and performances at the clock tower in the center of Aspropyrgos and at galleries, allowing us to share the results of this program with the local Athens community.
