This program, held in Melbourne, Australia, focused on the issue of exploitation of natural resources and indigenous cultures. Participants conducted field research in areas where the natural, residential, and cultural environments have been significantly affected by mining. By directly interacting with the local environment and communities, and observing, interviewing, and recording the changes, participants gained a real-life understanding of the impacts of extractivism.
The program focused on discussions and group work, giving students the opportunity to exchange ideas with experts and other participants and consider issues from a variety of different perspectives. In addition, based on the knowledge and insights gained through the field trips and discussions, students created video works in groups of two or three people, which they then presented online to the participants in Athens. This was a fulfilling program that deepened their understanding by combining theory and practice, while also allowing participants to experience the challenges of international collaboration through working with other students from diverse backgrounds.
